What is remedial massage — and is it right for you?
"Remedial" and "relaxation" massage are often used interchangeably, but they're not quite the same. Knowing the difference helps you book the session that actually fits what you're after.
Remedial vs relaxation
A relaxation massage is a flowing, full-body treatment designed to calm the nervous system and help you switch off. Pressure is usually light to medium, and the goal is simply to feel good and unwind.
A remedial massage is more focused. It tends to start with a quick chat about a specific concern — a tight shoulder, lower-back tension, recovery after activity — and the treatment is tailored to work on that area with techniques chosen to suit.
What a remedial session looks like
- A short conversation at the start about how you're feeling and what you'd like to work on.
- Treatment focused on the areas that need it, with pressure adjusted to your comfort.
- Simple aftercare suggestions so the benefits last beyond the table.
How to choose
If you mainly want to relax and reset, a relaxation massage is a lovely choice. If you have a particular area of tension you'd like addressed, remedial or deep tissue may suit you better. If you're not sure, mention it when you arrive — we'll tailor the session either way.
