Simple winter wellness tips from our studio

Fern & Soul winter wellness in Innaloo, a mug of tea, folded cream blanket and eucalyptus on warm timber by a softly lit window.

Perth winters are mild by most standards, but they still change how we feel: shorter days, colder mornings, and a strong pull towards the couch. None of that needs fixing with anything dramatic. These are the small, steady habits we come back to with clients at the studio, and they hold up year after year.

Keep moving, gently

Winter is when movement quietly drops out of the routine. The fix doesn't need to be a 6am bootcamp. A short daily walk, a few gentle stretches while the kettle boils, or getting off the couch once an hour all count. Muscles that move regularly through the day tend to feel far less stiff than ones that hold the same position from breakfast to bedtime.

Make warmth part of the routine

Cold muscles feel tight muscles. Simple warmth goes a long way: a proper coat on the morning walk, a warm shower after sitting still all day, a heat pack across the shoulders in the evening. It all helps towards feeling looser through the cooler months. It's also exactly why our relaxation massage with hot stones is the treatment we suggest most through winter: gentle heat and unhurried massage in the same hour.

Protect your sleep

A wind-down routine helps more than you'd think: a consistent bedtime, screens away a little earlier, and the bedroom actually dark. Winter's long evenings make it easier to drift towards midnight scrolling, but they're also the perfect excuse to head to bed earlier and bank the rest.

Break up desk time

If your winter is mostly spent indoors at a desk, your neck and shoulders will let you know about it. Set a reminder to stand, roll the shoulders and reset your posture every hour or so. It takes thirty seconds and spares you the accumulating stiffness that a whole season of hunching builds. If the tension's already set in, a remedial or deep tissue session can help ease what the stretch breaks can't reach.

Keep the water up

It's easy to drink plenty in a Perth summer and forget entirely in July. Staying hydrated matters just as much in winter, so keep a bottle on the desk, or make the herbal tea rounds a habit.

If you would like something to do rather than just something to avoid, our simple stretches to do between massages are the gentlest place to start.

None of this is complicated, and that's the point. Small habits, done steadily, add up. And when you're ready for a proper reset, we're here in Innaloo: check availability online any time.

What an incredible experience! Amy’s attention to detail, her obvious high level of training and knowledge, and the beautiful premises made for what was one of the best, if not the best, remedial massages I have ever had. I have had a lot of massages in my time and this was something else. The only downside is that I had to leave. Thanks Amy, I know your practice is going to get quite popular!
